Mousuni Island: Tour Bengali Flavored Ideal Two-Day Trip!
Feeling the stress of working in the rhythm of Kolkata too much? Mousuni Island is the answer you are looking for! Thanks to its smooth shores, warm atmosphere, and caring local hosts of Bengal origin, strength and light, it is a weekend player. Now, let’s look at ways of getting there and where to sleep or dine while exploring this lesser-known destination.
How to Reach Mousuni Island?
Getting to Mousuni island is actually an adventure, isn’t it? If you are coming from Kolkata, I will advise you come by train because it is easy to locate when you get there. Take a local train from Sealdah station and go to Namkhana.
It roughly takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours to travel by bus and charges ₹25-50 one side. When you get into Namkhana, it is easy to find a toto or a van that will transport you to Hujjuter Ghat. From there, one has to quickly take a boat to Mousuni Island that is nearby. A boat trip is extraordinarily quiet with a lot of green growing on the water.
If you are driving, Namkhana is reached following the Diamond Harbour Road. There is vehicle parking nearby the ghat, and therefore people can park their car and take a boat to the island.
Pro Tip: Do it as early as possible so that you can avoid last minutes rush and at the same time enjoy the entire process of doing it.
Where to Stay?
Mousuni is completely focused on nature, and that is why Neel Nirjone is ideal for staying. There are both luxurious timber cabins and delightful rental tents. If you like comfort then the cottages are what you are looking for. But if you are a little more daring and want to spend the night here the tents are something you will never want to miss.
Out of these programs, Neel Nirjone is quite notable because of the wonderful hospitality including food. They cook real Bengali food –hot dal, rice, aloo bharta, fresh fish curry etc. Add sea breeze to it and you’re in heaven! Nighttime doesn’t get better than this with bonfire sessions, and traditional arts with ocean breeze in the background.
Cost for a 2-Day Trip
Let’s break it down so you can plan better:
1.Train Fare: ₹50-100 (round trip per person).
2.Toto & Boat Ride: ₹200-300 per person.
3.Stay at Neel Nirjone: ₹1500-1800per head per night including accommodation and all meals.
4.Miscellaneous Expenses: Small eateries, gifts purchasing, chai-pakora time – 500 - 700 Rs.
With regard to cost, you can expect to spend anything between ₹3500-₹400 both for a two-day trip depending on the options you make. Oh wow that is so cheap for such a perfect getaway!
What to Do at Mousuni?
Afterwards, you can swim, sunbathe, or lounge on the shore, take nice strolls, or completely idle away your time in a hammock. Be sure to watch the sunset—it’s really beautiful! At night there is also mandatory star gazing. Cleanup is easy too and its beautiful if you ‘re coming from a busy town that you have to struggle to see a clear sky at night.
Remote and very peaceful, Mousuni Island is ideal for a person wishing to spend his/her time on the Nature. It’s best to just bring what you need (FYI, sunscreen and a power bank are necessities!), some pocket money, and you’re ready to go. Ekbargele, pherarichhekorbena!
